Manhole Cover Rugs

As part of an ongoing fascination with manhole covers, I created a series of hand-tufted rugs inspired by a selection of Valencia’s unique and vast manhole cover designs. By recreating these covers as rugs, I seek to change the way we view (or rather, overlook) these emblematic urban objects, transforming them from their otherwise hard, grimy and cold form, to one that is soft, precious and inviting.

The series of rugs were displayed during a group exhibition at Kindred, a design and gallery space in Valencia, Spain. They were showcased alongside an abstract mural I was commissioned to paint for the venue.
